Hi! Olá! 你好! Apa khabar? I’m Ling Ling.
I’m a Doctoral Researcher and Intercultural Psychologist in social psychology focusing on how individuals and societies respond to intercultural relations, migration, particularly in relation to refugees. Essentially, I conduct research, write papers, give talks, and facilitate workshops.
My PhD research focuses on asylum-seekers and refugees’ psychological and sociocultural adaptation in resettled and transit countries using mixed methods, specifically interventions, meta-analyses, thematic analyses, and psychometrics. I am especially interested in how psychological processes shape responses to displacement in ways that have real-world social and policy implications.
Before entering academia, I worked in engineering, travel technology, learning & development, and humanitarian organisations, across Europe, United States, and the Asia Pacific. I was exposed to cultural and societal challenges of discrimination and inequality in cross-cultural environments. As such, these experience continues to inform how I approach research questions and the kinds of problems I am drawn to.
I aim to conduct research that is both methodologically rigorous and socially responsible, particularly when working on topics involving vulnerable or displaced populations. In my research, I use a participatory approach to generate new knowledge that informs researchers and practitioners in their programmes and interventions.

I am currently based at the Centre for Psychological Research and Social Intervention (CIS) at ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon.
